This exciting CD/book
combination introduces SOULSPEAK as a primal art form that is already within
us, waiting to be re-awakened. It is intended for the general public and
will be of interest to anyone interested in expressing themselves from a deep
spiritual and emotional level.
No knowledge of poetry or
literature is required. It begins by journeying back to ancient, pre-literate
cultures and examining the earliest form of poetry, sometimes called tribal or
oral antiphonal poetry. The book then introduces SOULSPEAK, a contemporary
version of that early poetry, and gives the reader a series of techniques
for re-awakening our inborn ability to speak that early, primal poetry.
One of the main
contentions of the book is that the act of speaking is a powerful,
natural way of displaying the soul that is both illuminating and healing.
The author also examines
contemporary poetry through the lens of this ancient poetry, which in some
sense is a true Galapagos of poetry, a Galapagos that helps us understand why
contemporary poetry has lost much of its ability to communicate. A
considerable section is also devoted to understanding the art of Homer and the
nature and emergence of rap and why the two are sometimes close enough to kiss.
